Privacy Policy

Blocky Bits ("the App") is developed as a privacy-first experience. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.
1. Data Collection
Blocky Bits requires no account and the developer operates no servers of their own. All gameplay data — including scores, high scores, statistics, and customization settings — is stored locally on your device by default (and in your personal iCloud when sync is enabled). The developer never receives, accesses, or stores this data.
Data can leave your device in only two cases: through the Apple-managed services described in Section 2, and through the optional, opt-in anonymous analytics described in Section 3.
2. Apple-Managed Services
The App integrates with platform services provided by Apple. Any data handled by these services is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, not by us:
- Game Center: If you sign in to Game Center, your best scores are submitted to Apple's leaderboard. This is optional and can be disabled in iOS Settings.
- iCloud Sync: If iCloud is enabled on your device, your settings, custom themes, statistics, and in-progress games sync between your devices through your personal iCloud account. This data stays in your iCloud; the developer has no access to it.
- SharePlay: If you start a SharePlay session, game state is synchronized with other participants through Apple's encrypted Group Activities framework. No data is sent to the developer.
3. Analytics
Blocky Bits offers an optional, strictly opt-in anonymous analytics feature, off by default. On first launch the App shows a consent dialog with two choices — Share anonymous data or Not now. You can change your mind at any time in Settings → Privacy → Share Anonymous Analytics.
When you opt in, the App uses PostHog (operated by PostHog Inc., United States) as our sub-processor to receive anonymous event data. The connection is encrypted (HTTPS) and scoped to a project we control.
What we collect:
- A random install UUID minted the first time you opt in. This identifier is not your Apple ID, IDFA, Game Center player ID, email, or device fingerprint — it's a one-way value that cannot be linked back to you.
- A small, fixed set of 13 anonymous gameplay events: app opens, mode selections, game starts, game ends and suspensions (with a bucketed score range — never the exact score), high-score milestones, bonus usage, setting toggles, screen views, error categories, In-App Purchase views and purchases, and SharePlay session starts.
- Coarse, bucketed magnitudes (e.g. score 0–99 / 100–499 / 500–999 / 1000+) rather than exact values, so no event can fingerprint a player.
- Basic device context attached automatically by the analytics library: device model, operating system version, app version, screen size, locale, and timezone.
What we do not collect: personal information, location, contacts, exact scores, screen recordings, free-text user input, advertising identifiers, or any cross-app identifier. We do not use or store location derived from your IP address.
Retention: events are kept on PostHog’s infrastructure for up to 7 years, the retention window set by our PostHog plan. Because the install UUID isn't linked to your identity, there is no individual record to request access to or delete — opting out in Settings stops further data being sent immediately.
How to opt out: open Settings → Privacy in the App and toggle off Share Anonymous Analytics. No further events will be sent from your device.
4. Children's Privacy
Blocky Bits is a family-friendly game. It requires no account, shows no ads, and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone — children or adults. The optional analytics described in Section 3 is anonymous, off by default, and enabled only through an explicit opt-in.
